Chinese New Year

We used to have this noticeboard in the class when I was still in primary school. It'd be filled with New baby pictures every week. And we were supposed to guess who is who, have a good laugh blah blah.

Why am I talking about this?
Cos I realised I lost 2 of my cutest baby pictures. Argh! should never participate in that nonsense. Wasted my pictures!

Why am I looking for baby pictures?
Cos Pearly tagged me on FB as this boy. They said he looks like me.

'Where got?!'

Anyway, drove around in Malaysia on New year day 1.
For those who'd be asking, 'No, I'm not Malaysian'
My father was...
So We actually got a house there where our relatives would gather during New year blah blah. I figured I could actually drive in there with some of my frens sometime for holidays. The house is actually empty during other times of the year.

What did you do for Chinese New Year?

Spring cleaning? groceries shopping? ban new huo? pasting red paper banners? Buy new clothes?

For most of us, we had steamboat during chinese new year as a sign of reunion.

So steamboat signifies Chinese New Year.
For wanping, She reckons bak gwa = Chinese New Year.
For others, It may be collecting Ang Baos, buying new clothes.
For Huiwen, I reckon its visiting her nephew (when he is still small).
For some secondary school friends, I tot it'd be mahjong and playing Blackjack.
Personally, I tot it'd be abalone. When else would you be having abalone?! Where else?

In your school CANTEEN?!
Or would you have abalone for breakfast?!

(Anyway super sians I jus lost this huge chunk of information on National budget due to intermittent disconnection. Supposedly simplified to help people who are taking qualitative papers in their studies. Not gonna redo it liao. You can use it as External factor, political factor, marketing macro environment, country's policies and how spore attempts to attract foreign investors by investing in infrastructure and unfreezing credits and tax reductions blah blah.) Details here

Also, I talked about this riddle page. Pretty interesting. Here it is
Warning: Can be frustrating at times!

Lastly, GONG XI FA CAI to everyone!

Lunar Chinese New Year Eve

Alrights, been lagging in my blogging. Events during the past week, Ferlicia's birthday, Waterpolo games, MGM, Budget of financial year 09 revealed. being sick, 'slaughtered' for the price of haircut on the eve, model story plus going to malaysia on New Year day.

ok, shall do a quick grumble about the haircut.
After the haircut, the woman said, " $12+$10 is $22. We raised $10" wtf. thats like almost 100% increase in price right? Even bak gwa sellers arnt raising their prices for the New year( the only time in the year when they can reaped their profits), who're you to raise your price! dont they know of the economic recession?! Somemore the woman who cut my hair wore singlets despite not shaving her armpit hair. Imagine her raising her arms throughout when cutting my hair. *puke*
Market spoiler saloon is called 'V***s' located near bendemeer/st wilfred.

Everything else was great, Fer's bday where mascot winnie came, waterpolo games, where we won the remaining games, mgm gathering and dinner was pleasant, especially with Alan considering how long we haven gone for mgm. Next, I'd like to go to this news about the model.

"Brazilian model who lost hands and feet dies"

It is a very sad news about a supermodel, as young as 20 dead due to an infection which seems to be drug resistent. And while trying to save her, the doctors amputated her handS and feet in an attempt to stop the infection. The pain of her limbs amputated and what she had to undergo at her age was jus unimaginable. The infection took her out swiftly, showing how vulnerable and fragile we all are. She struggled for about a month before she left the world.. For a better place I hope.

May God bless her.

Mee Toh School

MEE TOH SCHOOL!! Not Mee Poh or Mee gia ok!
It was a primary school in my neighbourhood which I attended when I was young. It had since moved to punggol.

Just today, I spotted news that students of Mee Toh went to Japan for cultural exchange! They got to attend classes with the Japanese kids, immerse themselves in the culture and history of Japan. They also learnt how to use simple digital video techonology. How fortunate!
I remembered going to kukup and some wet market early in the morning 4am in my primary school field trip. It was really a big thing to go overseas for a primary school field trip. But compared to them, the trip to kukup was relatively merely a 'walk in the neighbourhood' LOL

Back in those days, Mee Toh was really a 'small' school. And I really mean it literally. What you see is what you get. The courtyard is used as the assembly ground, PE ground, catching area. And basically that's it. A courtyard, a hall and a canteen. I cant emphasize enough how puny was the school until you see it for yourself. I must attached some pictures next time. The school compound is still there tho it is used for other organisation now. Mee Toh was a non government school back in those days. And as one of few primary school which didnt accept government fundings, you can imagine how tough it was. It has since accepted governement's help due to its lack of intake and eventually moved to punngol where it educates/contains thousands of students now. Compared to my times where each level only had 3 classes of 30people. 6A,6B,6C. LOL Keep going Mee Toh!

Only manda would understand. =D

IN Your dreams!

I realised that I think super alot when I'm in bed. Just before I fall asleep. And the only time I'm not on my back when at home is when I'm bathing or eating. Maybe I think better when I'm on my back. Can I have my exams while lying on my back?!

Few questions to ponder over.

What do you do most often. You USE! With or without realising. When I ride, I use my bike to get me to my destination. When I rest on my sofa, I'm using it to get a rest. When you come online, you're using the internet. When you go out with your frens, you're using them as companions. When you're sleeping, you're using sleep to recuperate your body. When you go class, u're using it as a stepping stone to gain knowledge to have a better stand in society in future. Even when you're standing and doing nothing, you're using gravity to help u stay on the ground! So when do you not USE anything?!

Next, What do you face everyday? CHOICES! you choose what time to sleep, what time to wake up, what to wear, what to eat, what to do. Even when you're not choosing, you've already chosen not to choose! You choose what to do with your life, you choose your frens. You choose to brush your teeth, which side of your bed to wake up on blah blah blah. So when are u exempted from making decisions?

Now you know why I cant get to sleep at night! Thinking of nonsense! And in my dreams, it's always super exciting. Some kungfu stunts, some mystery cases to solve. Super busy in my sleep!

On a side note, SIM waterpolo beat SMU 13-9, drew with Ntu 10-10. =)

Volunteer!

After the dinner, we went to chill at Ben and Jerry's. By the time Mr nice guy cheeboon ferried everyone to the bus stops and sent me home, it was already 2plus am!

I had a volunteer race event for Yishun safra which required me to be at yishun at 340am or 440 at dairy farm. So I practically went home, change and got ready to move out. Due to some last min changes, I decided to head to dairy farm at 440, instead of Yishun at 340. Took a short nap at 4am. When I woke up, it was already 440am! and I was still at home! (Ok, I have to talk abt this random thing. My fren Dora, happened to be in the race and she was first for her category in this tough race! Impressive!)

I quickly rushed out of the house to be on my way. In less than 2mins of riding, I encountered a road block. Right at my doorstep, the same place where I was checked last time ( I should've known better). The traffic police asked for my license, where I'm going, if I had drank and why is my visor tinted. I could barely open my eyes, furthermore, to answer him. He REPRIMANDED me for my tinted visor and informed me of the $50 fine for the tinted visor before directing me to the main area for checks. (He was super rude to me, thinking back. *Angry*)

Surprisingly, the other guy didnt noticed my tinted visor and let me off! I sped to dairy farm and parked my bike. Just when I finally found the place and parked my bike. And the nightmare seems to be over, everything to be fine. My bike drop to the side and broke the windshield.

How ironic!

But I supposed the traffic roadblock was a wakeup call for me. It really woke me up. My heart pumped twice as much to deliver blood to my oxygen deficient brain. Tho I still speed in the end, I sped safely, WITH MY EYES OPEN.

Ps:The last 3 posts have been posted as consecutive events. if you've noticed. =) My brain wasnt lacking oxygen if not I'd be in stroke. And it'd be damaged. It's NOT.

Media Appreciation Dinner

It was really a night to remember. Not only did I meet up with our dear frens, keil and alan. I got to know more about other medis. Though the SRC sweater was attracting unnecessary attention, I still manage to take some pictures with the other ladies, like ferlicia,Iris, and the other year 1s! (probably cos the attire reminds them of harry potter)

We were impressed by the food on the table. Huge Pepper crabs, shark's fin soup, tender crispy chicken, prawns and black glutinous rice with ice cream as dessert. The year 2 guys were really impressed with the food. The food coupled with the nice environment on the dempsey hill was really value for money!!

Videos played, gifts, prize/plaque/certs presentation, photos/videos taken, and kevin crying were indescrible. Not to mention all the good food, nice environment and great company for dinner. It was a night to remember. All the best to kevin, the pang kang bear in his future endeavours. Best wishes to Chee boon as head of media department(he's really a nice guy).
Hope he can bring the department to a greater height!

Cfa 20, Edis dinner

Met up with Minghui, Sox on saturday afternoon to go Aranda together for Cfa 20! Darran and Manda came along shortly after we arrived. It was a short while before we departed for our dinners, but we really enjoyed ourselves! Made some new frens, Avanna, Jialing, Carolyn, Jason, learnt some new games, and did abit of 'role playing" for the class! =D

Oh ya, I was entruested with the task of bringing the projector from pasir ris (courtesy of Ben wei) to Long Beach @ dempsey by Ferlicia where the editorial dinner would be held. So Manda, Minghui, Darran and me rushed down in a cab. There was this interesting conversation btw the driver and his fren when I was alone with him. He was speaking in dialect via the speaker, so I could hear everything.

" Eh, you got hook any big fish not?"

" What would you consider big and what to be small?"

"Big fish would be more than $20 la small fish under lor." (I started to check out the meter which was already at $27+)

" Wu la wu la. Fished at downtown one, going to botanic garden there"

"Ho say la.. ok, I see you later at our usual place."

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
Right after the call, he started talking to me in english. Earlier on, while manda, minghui and darran were still in the cab, we had all conversed in english.
The driver must had assumed I wouldn't understand the dialect that they were using! LOL

Hubby's genitals set ablaze

SYDNEY - AN AUSTRALIAN woman who allegedly set fire to her husband's genitals because she believed he was having an affair appeared in court on a murder charge on Monday.
After the fire spread through the family home, Rajini Narayan, 44, told neighbours she had only wanted to burn her husband's penis 'so it belongs to me and no one else,' prosecutors said.
'It's just his penis I wanted to burn, I didn't mean this to happen,' she was quoted as saying, the Adelaide Advertiser reported.
Prosecutors said Narayan's engineer husband Satish was asleep in their double-storey Adelaide home when his wife doused his genitals with methylated spirit and set them on fire on December 8 last year.
The blaze spread when he jumped out of bed and knocked over the bottle of spirits, causing around US$700,000 (S$1 million) damage to the house and a neighbouring property, the court heard.
Narayan, 47, died in hospital last week.
His widow was remanded in custody until Friday, pending the results of a psychological assessment. -- AFP

Mum of caned boy charged
By Elena Chong COURTS CORRESPONDENT

A WOMAN has been charged with allowing her 10-year-old son to be caned about 100 times by her husband, who is the child's stepfather.

The 39-year-old hairstylist is said to have handed over two rattan canes to her husband, a 39-year-old owner of a hair salon who has since been jailed nine months for the offence, to administer about 100 strokes on the boy, causing him to suffer unnecessary physical injuries.

The alleged offence took place on Sept 15, 2007.
If convicted, she faces a fine of up to $4,000 and/or a jail term of up to four years.

WE ARE MUGGERS

Rate of children wearing specs here is ten times higher compared to Australia!
Australian scientists discovered that staying out in the sun for 2-3 hours will decrease probability of short sightedness!

I always have this thinking that eating too much bread can cause short sightedness.
Myth or Plausible?

Little nyonya ended last night with viewership of 1.67million. Which mean 1 out of 2.5 people watched the last episode. Hope you didn't miss it!

The Other people blog

Wah. I jus saw pics of freshie xueli's presents received on her birthday. Guess what she received? Tennis racket, instant camera, digital camera, a watch among other expensive looking stuff.*Impressed*
I'd never receive such stuff man.

OK, back to my other fren, Cindy. I once told her about my blog cos the name was actually inspired by hers but I doubt she'd read this. Anyway, I shall talk about this seconday classmate of mine. Back in our secondary school days(like one and a half years ago), we werent even half as close as now!

Cindy has actually stepped into the harsh working society earlier as she was graduated from poly, and now Uni. So, as different products of the country's education system I'd consult her opinions about stuff at times and use them as reference. And I must say she actually inspired/impressed me quite a number of times! She'd ask me to join her other friends for cycling and stuff.
So nice right!

So recently, I saw this few videos of hers on facebook. She was in this party which was hosted by facilitators who'd organise games for them. They'd play games and do forfeits. 'Punishments' include doing striptease, from what i see from the video. There was this exciting video where her gf went downstairs from the second floor bar to pick up her bra which she had thrown out of the window.

To add on, she had to yell, " Ok I got my bra back already" upon picking it. She was actually braless when she was running down the stairs ok! They were screaming 'a taxi actually ran over her bra' but I think the taxi missed it. LOL I must comment she was really game!

I shall drop by the party hosting place sometime. When my other female frens turn 21. LOL

Weird man

Oh ya, I forgot to talk about this.

There was a weird man outside Starbucks, lying on the floor. Suspicious of peeping at gals. So the manager tried talking to him but he wasn responsive at all when all he could do was staring into spaces. We then called the securities. Here's the interesting pic! Another upsetting thing was I had to pay for something I ate cos I forgot I could only take one free piece of pastry! DAmnit!

Pearly's Birthday

Went over to Timbre Arthouse last night for pearly's birthday celebration. It was quite an impromptu invite from pearly on friday but I agreed readily anyway. It was quite nice there. To chill with the Edis, Pearly, and to see her sister and cool friends. Minghui and Cheeboon came especially LATE. One of the few worth mentioning events would be 'the proposal' we witness while we were there. There was this guy name eric, who went up to sing, before proposing to her gf. She agreed to his proposal after regaining her composure from the plesant surprise. =) (pearly even went over to congrats them omg we all tot she was drunk! lol) Secondthing would be pearly going up to the stage and Tin to sing her happy birthday. I dono why was it her anyway. Maybe she was standing too near the stage? LOL

Had work today at starbucks and it was a pretty slllooooooowwww day! There was so few customers and time was passing by so slowly! It felt like the day was set in slow motion! Then came my New store manager. I had wanted to blog abt this cos I knew this was coming. The new manager sound quite fierce and 'gung ho' when it comes to work compared to the previous philippino. In his text msg, he mentioned something abt corrective actions for partners who don do this blah blah blah. The previous philippino guy was quite easy going and it kinda go against the 'Lucky Plaza Singapura' tradition now that one of the philippinos is gone.

The new manager brought along his previous asistant, coupled with 7 new partners. So I reckon there will be a revamp of the environment, culture and manpower at PsStore.
I was just wondering recently when to stop my work at Starbucks and concentrate on my studies. Now that the manager questioned about my lack of working hours per week. I guessed its time for me to end my affinity with Starbucks. He didnt really make a big hoo ha about it. But I told him about the need to have a break to prepare for my upcoming mock and actual exams.
And to add on, the work was getting kinda boring. I seriously cannot doin the same repetitive work. I need new challenges. I seriously think I should be ending my work on this friday.
So those of you who haven collected your drinks, do come on down soon!

KuKup!

Justify Full

So we all met up on the last day of the year to board the magic school bus to Kukup. The Bus was late and by the time we reached there to start our lunch, the other 3tables had finished theirs. Anyway, on the way there we were impressed by the new checkpoint at Johor. It's the same as woodlands checkpoint except its like twice as big and lots of detour so you can do merry go round.

The moment we arrived at our chalet, People started playing mahjong(I won money!), singing Ktv, Playing cards. And I really mean it! Zero time wastage. Ok, I shall mention the backgroud of the trip in case some of you get confused. Basically, There were 2 groups of people with 2 chalets. Odac group and couple group. Odac group is our group which consists of Us. While couple group consists of 9 couples plus Junren and Jiaguang who came over at 3am cos everyone in their chalet went to sleep already LOL Our group is like the trash of the society kind. We sing, We gamble, We eat. The other group are slightly cultivated kind. Play 'taboo', chit chat, chill.LOL
In the evening, we had the kelong trip. Please look at pictures illustrations. LOL Then we had our dinner. Dinner was 'eat all you can', BBQ food BBQed on the spot by the host and helpers. It was great. Highlight of the trip Ought to be The fireworks. Where we spent more than 1000RM in total. Serious! Please click those fireworks videos!
Late into the night, the rest started drinking. Very soon after, Everyone's faces turned red and cute!! There were Black label, Jim bean, barcardi. woo hoo~~ Junren was the most funniest la !!
He was Super High !

Right after the games and drinking session, they played truth or truth in which everyone must be truthful. What an appropriate time. I wasnt in the room/game cos I don really like the game. Sometimes, ridiculous questions were asked. But that night, it was ok. I'd have answered those questions if anyone had approach me with them. Even if we werent playing the game.
I have lots to say but something jus aint appropriate to say it here! haha
But the trip was Awesome! Thanks minglong for asking me along! Thanks everyone who were there for the Great company!!
